Evil Skate Gnomes

Everyone please send our Wormwood Queen healing wishes! She was having a fine time with her wonderful little gentleman and a roller-rink gnome popped up out of nowhere and nom’d her leg! And not in a pleasant “Oh! I’m just nibbling to verify to the others that you’re sweet.” More like “This ankle is coming with us woman!” She’s recouping right now and using her downtime to capture some of our UFRL wee folk. You can see more at hthewormwoodqueen.com/tea. This is one of her paintings for our Urban Fairy Rescue League, a sub story in Snapdragon Tea

We love tea parties!

It’s a bit of a melancholy day around the society. One of our society ladies has to see her gent off for a spell and unlike our dark rivals at the Black Cat & Poisoned Tea Society, we enjoy our gents being healthy, loving and near! So to try to ward off a little of the blue we’re going to share some of our society’s good memories and not so distant roots. Here’s a little scrapbook view of some of our past tea adventures…

Meet the Butterfly Circus Tea

Tonight we’ve made some orange sugar, have continued testing a very special Mother’s Day Tea and this…THIS. This is our Butterfly Circus Tea. With notes of rose, lemon and jasmine, it tastes like a beautiful summer day. It’s especially nice sweetened with orange sugar.

Sunday Tea Making

It’s a tea making Sunday. We think Miss Emma, along with all the residents of the Hathor Boarding House, would be pleased with the results. It is, after all, made in memory of her beloved niece. Snapdragon Tea!

Mere Henriot’s Elixir

We are so completely thrilled that The Wormwood Queen has allowed us to recreate her family’s long held recipe for Absinthe Tea, “Mere Henriot’s Elixir”. I couldn’t wait and had to make a cup after I finished the blend. Here I left the herbs in whole, in hopes that perhaps she will read my leaves once I have finished! Just like the liquor, this tea is best sweetened. I took the liberty to add one very special green sugar cube for festive purposes. We cannot wait to share it with you!

Miss Emma’s Tea

Miss Emma’s Gardens over at the Boarding House are known throughout Orange Moon Downs. That is where she plants her medicines, magic and memories. We have carefully harvested some of her special herbs including sage and parsley, and crafted this most wonderful savory tea. The fennel seeds give it just a touch spunk and elegance. A bit like Miss Emma herself.

The History of Afternoon Tea

Now it’s time for some tea trivia! We found a wonderful little page
with the history of afternoon tea. Below is a brief excerpt from that article.

“Tea consumption increased dramatically during the early nineteenth century and it is around this time that Anna, the 7th Duchess of Bedford is said to have complained of ‘having that sinking feeling’ during the late afternoon. At the time it was usual for people to take only two main meals a day, breakfast, and dinner at around 8 o’clock in the evening. The solution for the Duchess was a pot a tea and a light snack, taken privately in her boudoir during the afternoon.”

Later friends were invited to join her in her rooms at Woburn Abbey and this summer practice proved so popular that the Duchess continued it when she returned to London, sending cards to her friends asking them to join her for “tea and a walking the fields.” Other social hostesses quickly picked up on the idea and the practice became respectable enough to move it into the drawing room. Before long all of fashionable society was sipping tea and nibbling sandwiches in the middle of the afternoon.” Read the whole article here. Artwork available at allposter.co.uk
