The moon has many names.

alphonse-mucha-2

“The moon has different names?” Emily asked as she looked up into the night sky. Miss Emma nodded her head slowly and looked towards the full moon shining down on them. A smile slowly passed over her lips as she thought about the many, many full moons she’d seen in her days.

“Oh yes. A different name for every month of the year. This was how people in very old times kept track of their seasonal times. For those who lived here in those distant days they often called this the Milk Moon or the Full Flower Moon for this was the time when you’d see your spring flowers bringing color back into the world.” Miss Emma grew quiet for a moment as her thoughts traveled elsewhere. She looked towards the dense line of dark that was the start of the forest and a very old memory came to mind. “I once knew it by a different name though…”

Waiting for the Ancestor Tea

One of our Society members, Arachnia Faulkner, is counting down to Halloween
and simply couldn’t wait for an Ancestor Tea. We had a lovely early time.

Time and Tea

Some things get more beautiful with age. You can look at an antique object and just imagine the history its seen. You can feel a little of the energy that its collected over time from all the hands and lives that have touched it and this energy almost forms a type of soul. These antique tea strainers have seen a lot of teas and a lot of time. *Photo source unknown. If you know the photographer please let us know! This beautiful shot needs to be shared and credited!

Evil Skate Gnomes

Everyone please send our Wormwood Queen healing wishes! She was having a fine time with her wonderful little gentleman and a roller-rink gnome popped up out of nowhere and nom’d her leg! And not in a pleasant “Oh! I’m just nibbling to verify to the others that you’re sweet.” More like “This ankle is coming with us woman!” She’s recouping right now and using her downtime to capture some of our UFRL wee folk. You can see more at hthewormwoodqueen.com/tea. This is one of her paintings for our Urban Fairy Rescue League, a sub story in Snapdragon Tea

We love tea parties!

It’s a bit of a melancholy day around the society. One of our society ladies has to see her gent off for a spell and unlike our dark rivals at the Black Cat & Poisoned Tea Society, we enjoy our gents being healthy, loving and near! So to try to ward off a little of the blue we’re going to share some of our society’s good memories and not so distant roots. Here’s a little scrapbook view of some of our past tea adventures…

Meet the Butterfly Circus Tea

Tonight we’ve made some orange sugar, have continued testing a very special Mother’s Day Tea and this…THIS. This is our Butterfly Circus Tea. With notes of rose, lemon and jasmine, it tastes like a beautiful summer day. It’s especially nice sweetened with orange sugar.

Sunday Tea Making

It’s a tea making Sunday. We think Miss Emma, along with all the residents of the Hathor Boarding House, would be pleased with the results. It is, after all, made in memory of her beloved niece. Snapdragon Tea!

Mere Henriot’s Elixir

We are so completely thrilled that The Wormwood Queen has allowed us to recreate her family’s long held recipe for Absinthe Tea, “Mere Henriot’s Elixir”. I couldn’t wait and had to make a cup after I finished the blend. Here I left the herbs in whole, in hopes that perhaps she will read my leaves once I have finished! Just like the liquor, this tea is best sweetened. I took the liberty to add one very special green sugar cube for festive purposes. We cannot wait to share it with you!

Miss Emma’s Tea

Miss Emma’s Gardens over at the Boarding House are known throughout Orange Moon Downs. That is where she plants her medicines, magic and memories. We have carefully harvested some of her special herbs including sage and parsley, and crafted this most wonderful savory tea. The fennel seeds give it just a touch spunk and elegance. A bit like Miss Emma herself.
