The History of Afternoon Tea

Now it’s time for some tea trivia! We found a wonderful little page
with the history of afternoon tea. Below is a brief excerpt from that article.

“Tea consumption increased dramatically during the early nineteenth century and it is around this time that Anna, the 7th Duchess of Bedford is said to have complained of ‘having that sinking feeling’ during the late afternoon. At the time it was usual for people to take only two main meals a day, breakfast, and dinner at around 8 o’clock in the evening. The solution for the Duchess was a pot a tea and a light snack, taken privately in her boudoir during the afternoon.”

Later friends were invited to join her in her rooms at Woburn Abbey and this summer practice proved so popular that the Duchess continued it when she returned to London, sending cards to her friends asking them to join her for “tea and a walking the fields.” Other social hostesses quickly picked up on the idea and the practice became respectable enough to move it into the drawing room. Before long all of fashionable society was sipping tea and nibbling sandwiches in the middle of the afternoon.” Read the whole article here. Artwork available at allposter.co.uk

Our first event!

The Orange Moon Trading Company

As noted in this earlier post, our own Wormwood Queen is off to ConVocation this weekend. This is a new event exploring a wide range of mystical paths that offers guest speakers, an art show and a vendors room of unique items. Our absinthe gal will be holding a tea salon at high noon this coming Sunday at the event. She will be handing out samplers of our very first (and our signature) Orange Moon Tea! If you’re planning to attend the event please make sure to visit her tea panel and let her better acquaint you with our tea society!

Tea and Tasseomancy

Wormwood Queen is a founding member of the Orange Moon Tea Society and heir to the secret recipe for Mother Henriot’s Elixir, (otherwise known as Absinthe Tea). She was taught the magical art of tea leaf reading by a member of the Royal Court of Fae in exchange for her Illustrious work with the Urban Fairy Rescue League. In an effort to preserve this glorious tradition, she has chosen to pass on her knowledge to those who will join her for this unprecedented tea. This is an opportunity not to be missed!

Learn more by visiting ConVocation online, February 19th-22nd, 2015, for more details and join our Wormwood Queen Sunday for tea!
